GOD

“do you not know? have you noy heard? the lord is the everlasting god, the creator of the ends of the earth. he will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. he gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. even youths grow tired and weary and young men stumble and fall: but those that hope in the lord will renew their strength. they will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. isaiah 40:28-31.

My God is the god of the bible; YAHWEH, THE GREAT I AM and is the one and only living and true god. He is the God who made the world and everything in it, the lord of heaven and earth. He himself gives life and breath and everything else. (acts 17:24-25)

he is infinite and all knowing. he is perfect in all of his attributes. he is in one essence, eternally existing in three Persons-God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. each are equal and worthy of worship and obedience.

he has always been in EXISTENCE and always will be in EXISTENCE.

he has no beginning.

he has no end.

he is from everlasting to everlasting. psalm 90:2.

he is an aseity.

absolutely self SUFFICIENT, independent, self derived, self ORIGINATED.

he is;

god the father

he is the first person of the trinity and is the creator of all things. He is the only absolute ruler of the universe. he alone is sovereign in creation, providence and redemption. as the creator he is the father of all men, but is the Spiritual father only to believers. he has decreed for His own glory all things that will come to pass. he continually directs and governs all events. he did not create nor does he approve of sin. he has chosen before the foundation of the world those who he will have as his own. he saves from sin all he calls that will respond by coming to him through his son jesus christ and then he adopts them as his children. this is the one and only way man can be united with god.

god the Son

jesus christ is the second person of the trinity. he possesses all the same divine qualities as god the father. yet he came to the earth as a man. he is all god and he is all man. he came to reveal god, redeem man and rule over god's kingdom. he was born of a virgin and did not sin nor was sin ever found in him. he voluntarily died on a cross for our sin. his sacrificial dead and shedding of his blood satisfied our sin debt to god. he was buried and rose bodily from the dead then ASCENDED into heaven. he will return again one day for those that have accepted him as their lord and savior. they will then serve with him on this earth for 1000 years when he establishes his millennial kingdom. he is the one through which god will one day judge all of mankind. he is currently sitting at the right hand of god INTERCEDing for believers. God the father has given him all AUTHORITY in heaven and on earth. (matthew 28:18)

god the holy spirit

he is the third person of the trinity. he possesses all the same divine attributes of personality and deity as god the father and god the son. his role is to execute the divine will to all of mankind. this began at pentecost when he came from the father as promised by christ to initiate and complete the building of the body of jesus christ. he convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgement by glorifying the LOrd Jesus Christ and transforming believers into the image of Christ. he does this by indwelling, sanctifying, instructing, empowering, and guiding all believers for service and seals them for the day of redemption.

God is referred to by many different Names.

Elohim is a general name translated “God” in the Bible. It is the second most used name of God in the Old Testament. The word “El” comes from a root that means strong or power, and therefore, has the connotation of “Strong One” or “Mighty Leader.”

The name El Elyon should comfort us because it teaches that God is in control everything. There is nothing on the earth that happens apart from his control.

Romans 8:15-16 NIV

We can have a close, personal intimacy with God, our Father.

God will not yield The Glory due His Name to another.

“I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols.”

Isaiah 42:8 NIV

God’s reputation is very important to Him.

“But for the sake of my name, I brought them out of Egypt. I did it to keep my name from being profaned in the eyes of the nations among whom they lived and in whose sight I had revealed myself to the Israelites.”

Ezekiel 20:9 NIV

“For my own sake, for my own sake, I do this. How can I let myself be defamed? I will not yield my glory to another.”

“In you, Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness. Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me. Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me. Keep me free from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge. Into your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, Lord, my faithful God.”

Psalm 31:1-5 NIV

“You will know that I am the Lord, when I deal with you for my name’s sake and not according to your evil ways and your corrupt practices, declares the Sovereign Lord.’ ”

Ezekiel 20:44 NIV

This has to be the ultimate way that God reflects His Name with His character.

By offering to forgive our sins rather that punish us for them.

His default position is always to forgive.

But, we must do our part though by repenting of our sins and seeking His forgiveness.

It is not automatic.

God’s Name is Holy and pure.

“For the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is his name.”

Luke 1:49 NIV

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,’ who was, and is, and is to come.”

Revelation 4:8 NIV

How should all of this affect us?

well first and foremost, we should take the advice of the wisest man that ever lived, king solomon:

“here is the conclusion of the matter; fear god and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all of mankind. For god will bring every deed into judgement, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.” ecclesiastics 12:13-14

*Understanding the names of God will help us worship him better.

“I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.”

Psalm 9:1-2 NIV

*Knowing the names of God should help our prayer life.

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

1 Peter 5:7 NIV

*Knowing the names of God should help us be more secure and less shaken in the midst of trials.

“The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”
